Nearly 20,000 participants raised record sums for charities on 11 September at the largest ECCO Walkathon.
The ECCO Walkathon held on Saturday 11 September was a huge success and a fun and enjoyable experience for the record crowds. Tickets were already sold out more than a week in advance. The 20,000 participants raised a total of 702,284 pln (178,345 euro), including a donation of 50,100 pln (12,723 euro) from the children.
The ECCO Walkathon was a busy day of festivities attended by a long list of well-known Polish celebrities who performed in front of the excited crowds. ECCO Brand Ambassador and child star Igor Falecki also took the stage and showed why he is a world-renowned drummer at only eight years’ of age.
A group of Samba dancers kicked off the 6 and 10 km walks. The Walkathon route was changed back this year to the original route of the first Walkathon at Warsaw Agrykola. The route passed through the streets of downtown Warsaw and wooded areas of the city. Along the way, participants walked by many stands of entertainment, including a choir, musicians, street performers, jugglers and a walk through an outside display of military tanks and helicopters at Poland’s National Museum.
The 702,284 pln (178,345 euro) raised at this year’s Warsaw Walkathon were donated to the three organizations WWF, SOS Wioski Dziecięce and the Polish charity TVN “nie jesteś sam”.
